Who We Are
Angie Arendt and Peter McGaugh are the curators, creators, and community makers of Big Stone House.
Both Peter and Angie studied, trained and taught with the Enneagram Institute for years before branching out on their own with Another Way: a unique series of program, workshops, certified trainings, and retreats that combine the wisdom of the Enneagram with generative leadership, contemplative practices, and brain-based methodology to make the teachings and traditions of the Enneagram applicable and transformational in everyday life.
Besides their Enneagram work, Angie leads Sitting on Sunday and The School for the Soul at Big Stone House and is a community chaplain of sorts. Peter mentors leaders and teams in organizations, corporations, and institutions of all sizes all over the world in the good work of tending to the human side of business.
Here’s a bit more about each of them (and the Yellow Dogs, too):
Angie is a reverend, writer, and ritual keeper. She’s been a revere-r her whole life long but has only been paying attention (and helping others do the same) as a profession for the past three decades.
As an ordained minister (United Church of Christ, USA), Angie led, taught, engaged, blessed, and shared the big and little moments of life with congregations ranging in size from 150 to 3500 members for more than twenty years. For the past ten years, her work has been doing the same kinds of things with people outside of the institution of the church, providing folks from all walks of life and in all kinds of places with resources, space, experiences and support to rediscover a sense of the sacredness in the everyday, ordinary highs and lows of life.
Angie occasionally consults and facilitates with Peter McGaugh at Deep Life. She taught with the Enneagram Institute (New York) for a number of years, has been visiting faculty for the Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL) program and U of Next, and has presented at multiple regional and national conferences on (among other things: contemplative practice for everyday people, the good and grace of grief, and the Enneagram.
Along with her theological and contemplative studies and experience, Angie is certified in Integral Developmental Coaching (New Ventures West), brain-based teaching and leading (Jensen Learning), and the Enneagram (The Enneagram Institute).
Angie blogs every now and then, pens a column for a local paper, and is ever so slowly scratching out a book on good, grief and grace. She joins Trudy Chapman twice monthly for “The PauseCast”, too (listen to one of Angie’s favourite episodes here).
Peter is a mentor, teacher, and writer who shares his wealth of wisdom and decades of experience with people at Big Stone House and beyond. He directs the Coaching and Consulting for Courageous Leadership programs at Deep Life (a company that supports executives and teams in the good work of strengthening the human spirit in the workplace), is visiting faculty for the Masters of Arts of Organizational Leadership (MAOL) program, and is the creator of Using the Enneagram in the Workplace: a certification program designed especially for coaches, therapists, spiritual directors, HR professionals, and others committed to the work of bringing out the best in the people around them.
Peter is a Master Enneagram Teacher (Enneagram Institute, New York) and an Integral Development Coach (New Ventures West) and has 20+ years of experience as a senior executive in a global organization. He is currently penning a book of once-a-week practices to grow people’s capacity to seek and grow a bit more of that “human thing” at home and at work.
The Yellow Dogs of the Big Stone House (aka: Ellie and Chester) are a regular part of pretty much everything that happens here. Their presence is therapeutic, their antics bring a smile, and they are always up to play. Play is good for the soul, you know.
