The Winter Session of Sitting on Sundays is extended through Lent.
From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (Eastern) Sundays March 3-24, we’ll continue this work on “b”ing but with a focus on the topics that traditionally come up during this season: betrayal is one thing we’ll wrestle with. Why bold faith matters and what that has to do with becoming ever more human…which, by the way, might be the best and most beautiful thing we could ever do in this life. And life is what Lent leads to, you know.
Note: you do not have to have participated in the Winter Session to be a part of this Bonus Session.
(the descriptor of the Winter session of Sitting on Sundays follows, just in case you’re curious what this is about).
Someone once described Sitting sessions at Big Stone House as “a mashup between a Quaker meeting, a Buddhist sit, an AA meeting, and a hootenanny. This practice gives me hope for the world. More than that, it gives me hope for myself and the people around me…and that’s no small thing. I wish everybody had something like this to be a part of, a community like this to belong to. We’d all be better off for it.”
In this part of the world January isn’t only known as the beginning of a new year (or as some see it: a fresh start). It’s also known as the bleakest month of the year—the “Monday of the months”, you might say.
January isn’t either/or, you know: it’s both a beautiful excuse to focus on being better and sometimes a big case of the blues (to put it mildly).
In the next session of Sitting on Sundays, we are focusing on the both/and of January and the both/and of life. Each week for six weeks we’ll sit together across the screen to ponder on and plant seeds for things like becoming, belonging, and beauty-in-the-bleak.
Based on the alliterative description above, you might have picked up that this session of Sitting on Sundays is brought to you by the letter ‘B.’ There are so many blaringly obvious possibilities to bounce around and be with in these Sits: beauty and belonging (as mentioned above), broken heartedness and the blahs, becoming better (what does that really mean, anyway?), figuring out who we be (‘b’?) and what we bring to the places we live and work that makes them ever more beautiful and brilliant.
Join us Sunday, January 21, 2024 as we begin this six-week session of Sitting on Sundays on ‘B’ing. You’ll be glad you did.
We begin at 10:00 a.m. each week and wrap up around 11:00 a.m.
Because these Sits are held online by Zoom, you can participate no matter where you might be on any given Sunday.
Also: this series of Sits is limited to 25 people, so register early to reserve your spot on the screen.
Sitting on Sundays takes a break for the summer. We’ll be again in the Fall with a six-week back-to-school (yup, back-to-school) session starting September 29, 2024.
